I’d give this a 6/5 if possible. This record is flawless, a truly modern masterpiece. There’s not one bad song or bad moment on it. The songwriting is informed by The Beatles, Harry Nilsson, late 60’s early 70’s southern California rock, The Beach Boys and Burt Bacharach. Don’t misunderstand, this record is modern and not anachronistic.
Stand out tracks for me are, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings,” and, “Only Son of the Ladies Man.”
Not only are the songs amazing, the recording stands out too. Tracked all analog and produced at Jonathan Wilson’s LA studio, the sound is rich, detailed and full.
This record is painfully good.
