I just picked this album up the other day after listening to the release of the first track of the album. Although this is only the second album I own of the band, it isn’t terribly hard to judge the sound and style of this album. If you own any albums by The Minor Times, Architect, Botch, or most of the Black Market Activites roster, then you should enjoy this album. Their previous albums tend to be more frantic and loud, but Crooked Voices takes a different approach. The songs take on much simpler song structures, with less guitar noodling and timing dissonance. They fill those missing pieces with pummeling guitar chords and slow moody verses with crushing choruses. If you don’t own any of their other work, this is necessarily a bad place to start in their catalogue.
