Steve Earle records are typically a combination of jaded, divorce influenced rants on the dregs of love chased by leftist protest music. Transcendental Blues, however, is a transition record, where Steve’s focus is more on the idea of one’s struggle to exist. These songs are pointed questions about mortality, about sex and faith and anger. They stand alone as mini-sermons, each with some kernel of depth perception. Musically, its all acoustic lead bar band alt country…and good acoustic lead bar band alt country at that. There you go.
