Prophecy is the fourth studio album by the metal band Soulfly and it was released in 2004. Cavalera recruited a whole new line-up for the Prophecy album. Joe Nunez was back behind the drum kit (he had previously played on the Primitive album in 2000, but left the band for the recording of 3), and Marc Rizzo (ex-Ill NiƱo) was on guitar. There were two bassists playing as members of Soulfly on Prophecy - David Ellefson formerly of Megadeth and Bobby Burns of Primer 55. Max Cavelera is a hard ass original. Whether its Sepultera, Soulfly or The Cavalera Conspiracy, he likes making metal music on his own terms.

With Soulfly, that means layered buzz saw death metal grooves over Carribbean percussion, deftly narrated by simple, to the point lyrics sung like a warrior death chant. As usual, it works really well. The riffs are sick and Max sounds as pissed as ever. It’s also interesting to note the inherent positivity in Max’s lyrics, excercises in hate study and spiritual diatribes on sin. Go Max!
