Reign in Blood is the third studio album and major label debut by the American thrash metal band Slayer. Released on October 7, 1986, the album was the band's first collaboration with record producer Rick Rubin, whose input helped the band's sound evolve. Reign in Blood was very well received by both critics and fans, and was responsible for bringing Slayer to the attention of a mainstream metal audience. Kerrang! magazine described the record as "the heaviest album of all time," and a breakthrough in thrash metal and speed metal. Slayer’s epic 35 minute masterpiece is STILL one of the three most important metal records of all time. This is a fully realized, fully crafted project, the pinnacle of all Slayer are, which is pretty much a love letter to the 5th Amendment. Bask in the unholy riffage of such defiant classics as the title cut, “Piece By Piece”, “Jesus Saves” and the only song ever written from the point of view of SS Doctor Mingle (the Nazi henchman who experimented on Jews in WW2). It’s frightening, un-pc stuff. But Slayer’s MO has always been to tell the villains side of the story (not to support it). Whereas many metal bands are tongue in cheek about such things, Slayer have always kept it pretty serious.
