Indicative of the mindset of young men being raised in the hoods of LA, Habits & Contradictions offers nothing new content-wise. Bitches, blunts & brews have been played with many times on wax. West Coast rappers add a new element to the equation: banging. What Q does here is offers his own perspectives of the aformentioned topics. He does that well. Not focusing on being anyone other than Quincy is how he wins.
The production is top notch while remaining fresh and utterly west coast. There’s better production on this album than many albums being put out by labels with deep pockets. Keeping the features available to his Black Hippy crew and a select others, ScHoolboy Q holds his Blessed featuring Kendrick Lamar is worth the purchase alone.
