Norways most popular Black Metal band, Satyricon, have always been loners, embracing lyrics about dark forests and henchman rather than sharing their peers penchant for pagan diatribes.

Now, Diabolical is Satyricons crowning achievement, a mixture of both Black and thrash metal that manages to be both catchy and still not a corporate sell out. Satyrs vocals are harsher than ever and Frosts drumming is as technical as ever. The album is built on the “castles and crows” fare that Satyricon has always used. Their earliest recordings were straight Black Metal. With every release, they have grown in their sound and scope.

Now, Diabolical is the polished result of such evolution and deserves recognition as such.
