Ryan Adams fourth proper co-marquee with The Cardinals is also his most confused. The beauty here is that maybe that’s totally on purpose. Ryan’s lyrical excursions here are somewhere between brilliant and unfocused…..sometimes both. The sound of the record doesn’t know if it wants to be funk, U2 sized arena rock or casual “let’s have sex with our clothes on” alternative country. I still liked it. But I can’t, in good conscience give it a great review. You figure it out.
