The third commercial release for Ours also saw the first commercial recordings with guitarists Static and Locke, a duo that the band auditioned to fill the shoes of guitarist Dave Milone after he left the band to pursue a solo project in 2002. Mercy... is also the first Ours record to showcase the producing talents of Rick Rubin, who took over the project when Dreamworks' music division was inherited by Geffen Records.
