Portrait of an American Family is the 1994 debut album by Marilyn Manson, released on Nothing and Interscope Records. The band, formed in 1989 by Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, became known for its shocking image and stage shows, gaining a South Florida cult following before being signed by Trent Reznor to his Nothing Records. Initially produced by Roli Mosimann, the album was reworked in Los Angeles by Manson, Reznor, and others, with some recording done at Reznor’s studio on the site of the 1969 Tate murders.
