Compton MC Kendrick Lamar offers one of the best albums of the year. More than a reflection of who he is, the artist formerly known as K. Dot gives insight on an entire generation. Section.80 goes where not many of Kendrick’s contemporaries linger–instead of waxing poetic about how much money he’s got or weed he smokes, the MC uses this project to discuss the vices and ills of 80’s babies.

The only downfall to this entire project would be the lack of big name production. But that is to Kendrick’s credit. Flowing over instrumentation instead of beats from A-list beatmakers, listeners focus.on what is being recited by the 24-year-old. Even without beats from major players, the project still knocks. Enlisting the help of GLC, Schoolboy Q & BJ the Chicago Kid, Kendrick Lamar makes up the bulk of this project, the way its supposed to be.

With Section.80, Kendrick Lamar goes for the title of most thought-provoking MC in the game and grabs the mantle.
