En serio, luego del buen tema que es “Fireworks” el resto se queda muy bajo.
There are a lot of conventional reasons why I’m not supposed to like this record. Namely, I’m a guy, I’m straight and I typically don’t find pop sensations interesting or talented. The thing is, my own personal motto is like what you like and don’t apologize. It’s easier to say that when I’m defending Cannibal Corpse or Six Feet Under. But alas, at 24, on the cusp of getting married and destined to soon have a morgage, an SUV and some kids, I really could care less how folks feel about me finding something fresh in this girl.
I tried to dislike this album. My fiance liked it, told me I should give it a shot. Well, there’s something to be said for this Katy Perry chick. The beats and riffs are total 80’s throwbacks (Hall And Oates, Duran Duran). Her voice kinda sounds like Blondie if Debbie Harry could actually sing. Then there’s the fact that the lyrics are actually pretty smart for someone who’s fanbase is mostly teenage girls who do jello shots out of eachothers belly buttons. I wound up really respecting the quality of the songs production wise. It also kind of reminds me of Blink 182 here and there (and I’m a huge fan), so that really sealed the deal.
I guess I’ll call this “smart pop”. God help me…..5 stars.
