Paradise Valley is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter John Mayer, released on August 20, 2013, by Columbia Records. Musically, it is similar to his previous album Born and Raised (2012), but also features more musical breaks and instrumentals consisting of electric guitars rather than harmonica. While it may not be the bonified hit parade of yore, there’s still a Laurel Canyon vibe that holds this record together. Call me crazy, but has it charms.
Even a Frank Ocean guest appearance can’t redeem this incredibly boring effort (if it can be called that). The mumbling pettiness that’s become Mayer’s songwriting takes a nosedive even from “Born & Raised”. The bottom line is: if you want music like this, you have so many better options than this.
