Morning View is the fourth studio album by alternative rock band Incubus, released October 23, 2001. This is the band's last album to feature bassist Alex Katunich. The album has a sound that is overall softer than previous albums, especially apparent on songs such as "Echo" and "Are You In?", however, Incubus's heavier side is still evident on tracks like "Have You Ever" and "Under My Umbrella". Songs such as "Just a Phase" display more original song structures. This is the result of being set up in a house in Malibu, plain and simple. Of the 30 songs written for Morning View I think the band did an excellent job at choosing the appropriate 13 for the record. This is where Incubus started to shift, in my opinion, but this album made their transition incredibly fluid for their fans. This was the last Incubus album that I instantly loved from the first listen.
This is Incubus reacting to the juggernaut success of Make Yourself. The result is a very clear headed vision, somehow mixing aggro-riffs with positivity and wash out experimentation. The album stands as their last peak performance before a fairly uneven succession of records. It’s a landmark in the Incubus pantheon. .
