The debut album of Hope of the States, released 2004, after the suicide of guitarist James Lawrence. Mixes post-rock influences with the melodies and structures of more straightforward rock while riding between utter despair and optimistic hope, grand epics and downstated ballads. Hope Of The States were a post/indie rock band from Chichester, UK. The band formed out of teenage experiments by childhood friends, singer/songwriter Sam Herlihy, instrumentalist Anthony Theaker, and guitarist/vocalist James Lawrence, joined by drummer Simon Jones and violinist Mike Siddell as Hope of the States in 2000 while at university. Paul Wilson later joined as permanent bassist from 2002, and Michael Hibbert joined as guitarist after the death of Jimmi in 2004. Read more on Last.fm
