on “Today” and “On Fire” they sounded like bright-eyed college students making music for an imagined, disillusioned, hyper-educated, and drunk audience. here, it sounds like they became that audience after spending too much time with one another, and try in vain to make music for their past selves. on the surface this album sounds emotionally thin but it’s not for lack of effort. they were at the end of their rope. highly recommend this album and all of this band’s music.
