Deathspell Omega

Paracletus is the fifth full-length studio album recorded by the French black metal band Deathspell Omega, released on 9 November 2010 through Norma Evangelium Diaboli along with Season of Mist. It is the third part in their metaphysical trilogy of albums representing God, the Devil and Man (following Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice and Fas – Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum). The term 'paracletus' is the Latinised form of the Greek word παράκλητος (parákletos), meaning comforter. It is another name for the Holy Spirit.     This is compelling black metal in all the ways black metal can be compelling. It’s more symphonic than spastic, has flow, and is incredibly pretentious (from Wikipedia: “[Paracletus] is the third part in their metaphysical trilogy of albums representing God, the Devil and Man…”). It’s good to hear lyrical content be far less horrific than is generally expected from the genre.
