'Sunbather' is the second studio album by the American Blackgaze band Deafheaven. The Jack Shirley-produced album was released on June 11, 2013 through Deathwish Inc. 'Sunbather' was recorded in January 2013. The cover artwork for 'Sunbather' was designed by Nick Steinhardt of Touché Amoré who also designed the band's 2011 debut album Roads to Judah. The pink and orange colors on the cover are meant to resemble the color seen on the inside of one's eyelids when laying in the sun. The inspiration to have the title "Sunbather" written out in a simple, block formation was drawn from Pulp's 2001 Read more on Last.fm.
I’m not going to pretend I’m not jaded by all the adulation, but all the adulation is undeserved. This is a lame “blvck mxtvl” record that got some shine last year because they threw in some neat shimmery parts. I tried and tried and tried to like it, but alas: colour me deeply unimpressed. It happens.
It’s good!
It’s not the best album of last year (as some alternate universe with questionable motives is trying to convince us of), but it’s good!
