The Dave Holland Quintet's music is a mixture of progressive-minded post-bop and avant-garde jazz, with asymmetrical rhythms, creative harmonies, emphasis on group improvisation, and extended forms, to create some of the most well-respected music in postmodern jazz (in no small part because of the inspiring feat of their continued balancing act between being both accessible and edgy).
