Deth Red Sabaoth

Danzig

Deth Red Sabaoth is the ninth studio album by Danzig, released on June 22, 2010 through Evilive/The End Records. Deth Red Sabaoth marked Danzig’s highest-charting album since the release of Danzig 4 in 1994. Nearly two years in production, Deth Red Sabaoth is the first release of new Danzig studio material in six years, since 2004's Circle of Snakes. However, in these six years, frontman Glenn Danzig had released his second solo album, entitled Black Aria II, in 2006, while Danzig (the band) released a compilation of previously unreleased material, entitled The Lost Tracks of Danzig, in 2007 Read more on Last.fm.

  1. gives it a: 4/5

I’m a Misfits fan, a Samhain fan and a Danzig fan. Pretty much, you can tell I’m a fan of Glenn Danzigs voice, that awsome combination of Elvis Presley and the undead. Glenn is an interesting guy, a controversial guy at that. No one’s gonna be playing “Twist Of Cain” at a family picnic. Glenn’s body of work has ranged from 5 star, top shelf rock (Danzigs debut) to embarrassingly unerproduced pulp drivel (everything between 1999 and 2002). So recently (about a month back) I picked up his first record in….a long time.

Titled Death Red Sabadoah, it has a great, classic looking cover, not the half baked crap Glenns been putting on the the last few. That’s what caught my eye. It was a very 80’s punk comic cover, hot babe grim reaper with a skull head and a red background. I was excited. I’d heard the single, “On A Wicked Night”, that subtle, acoustic tinged instant classic that you won’t hear on the radio. It was enough to make me consider that the latest Danzig might live up to….say….at least Lucifuge.

In truth, it actually lives up to Danzigs debut, yet the production is way more Misfits, vocals louder than the guitars and every instrument bleeding into the reverb while the raw, tinny drums crackle along like rocks on a tin roof. It might not work for someone trying to get airplay. But, for Danzig, its a call to the faithful, a powerhouse set of ruthless aggression, all sung in Glenns trademark Presley on helium croon. I’m giving this one 41/2 stars out of five.

I liked it…maybe you will too.

PS-If you have no clue who Danzig is, he’s the dude that sings “Mother” on your Guitar Hero game.
