It is a prequel to the story featured in the previously released albums and gives the characters Coheed and Cambria the introduction they lacked on The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Coheed and Cambria is an American progressive rock band from Nyack, New York. Formed in 2001, the group incorporates aspects of progressive rock, punk rock, metal, post-hardcore, emo and alternative rock. The band currently consists of Claudio Sanchez (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Travis Stever (guitars, vocals), Josh Eppard (drums, keyboards, backing vocals), and Zach Cooper (bass, backing vocals). The first imperfect installation in Coheeds pantheon, Rainbow is a darker, less technical trip. The music is stripped to simpler chord progression and time signatures, the hooks are less appealing, yet the album has a kind of dark, late 80’s prog gone mainstream quality that imbues it with a certain likability. It’s got enough genius in the story line and the music’s drab, almost suicidal vibe fits the mood. This is a polarizing piece, good but not 5 stars.
