Because the Internet is the second studio album by American rapper Donald Glover, under the stage name Childish Gambino. It was released on December 10, 2013, by Glassnote Records and Island Records. The recording process began in 2012 and ended in October 2013. Recording primarily took place at a mansion owned by basketball player Chris Bosh, which Gambino rented. The album features guest appearances from Chance the Rapper, Jhené Aiko and Azealia Banks, with production primarily handled by Gambino himself, Stefan Ponce and Ludwig Göransson, among others.     I dig this simply because it’s an entirely self-aware departure from hip-hop’s pomposity. It’s a weird record, swinging wildly between great moments and awkward segues, but it manages to give the impression that Glover doesn’t particularly care—which is pretty refreshing.

    Besides, isn’t a record about the internet going to reflect that idiotic culture of brilliance and awkwardness that comprises it? It seems to, but, the part that makes this record interesting is that I can’t tell if it actually *means* to. Well done.

    In all seriousness, Sick Boy has finally lived up to his moniker. He might have just convinced me he’s one of the best in the game right now.
