1980's Autoamerican remains as one of Blondie’s most experimental albums featuring hints of jazz, rap, reggae, disco, pop and rock. The singles were “The Tide Is High” (a cover of the reggae group The Paragons’ “The Tide Is High”) and “Rapture” (the first song that contains rap that reached number 1 on US singles charts). For producer Mike Chapman’s convenience, the album was recorded in Los Angeles, California, making it the first Blondie album to be recorded outside of New York City.
