Black Tusk is my least favorite of the stellar Savannah metal scene (Baroness, Kylesa, et al), but as the proverbial iron sharpens the iron, they’re still noteworthy to some degree. They definitely out-and-out rock the hardest and are the least ostensibly “arty.” Skip them on tape for now; see them in their element (i.e. live and loud) and make your own call.
I’ve likened Black Tusk to something like stoner metal with a punk aesthetic. ‘Set the Dial’ is really more of the same: rifftastic and energetic, but not necessarily inventive.
