Alice Russell (b. 1975) is a British soul singer.
She is the daughter of an organist, and grew up in Framlingham in Suffolk. At the age of nine, following in her father's and sisters' musical footsteps, Russell began taking lessons on cello, and sang in choirs, before studying art and music in Brighton from 1994.

I was fortunate to see Alice Russell and her band live at SXSW in 2009. I had no idea who she was. She made me a fan immediately. Russell performed with joy, confidence, sincerity and soul. Plus, she has great songs.
“To Dust,” covers familiar ground, the neo-soul, British soul sound but with a modern twist.
“Hard and Strong,” stands out as the album highlight. A great pop song with lots of hooks, Russell truly knows how to mix the old soul sound with modern production techniques.
Definitely a record with checking out.
