Alice in Chains is the eponymous third studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains. Released on November 7, 1995, it was the follow-up to the highly successful Dirt. Similar to Dirt, the album's songs focus on heavy subject matter such as depression, isolation, drug use, anger and death. The album relies less on metallic riffs and more on melody and texturally varied arrangements than the group's previous full-length albums, finally integrating some of the more delicate acoustic moods of their EPs.     There are good graces and evil spirits, bleeding hearts and introverted thinkers. Alice maintained the character of all, a plethora of focus and instinct. Their sound was rooted in dark, bluesy avenues, but their ideal and their vocality was strictly metal. This odd combo helped birth a sound unlike any other, where melody and spiteful rage became comfortable bedfellows. Here, on their last definitive collection, that sound is produced at its highest quality, the lingering appeal of each track more resonate than even 1992’s Dirt. This is a definitive album in our annals. Appreciate it.
