Alison Krauss produced this restrained, after hours set. In the vein of an old George Jones record, Red On A Rose mines the vocal range Alan Jackson often keeps hidden in his livelier outings. The song selection, including the best cover of “Don’t Change On Me” that anyone’s ever done, is impeccable. There’s a lot to be said for a troubador like Jackson taking a risk like this.
