This is one of those albums I put in and, within I think five minutes, knew I was totally enthralled. I actually bought the record after reading Cliff Seals review. Having never really heard the band, I was very curious to see what they brought to the table.

Well dudes, I’m late to the game with this one. This is just a KILLER, KILLER album from beginning to end. It’s 3 long form, progressive metal, proto-core, melodic, amelodic, dense, ever changing, fully realized songs. I’m floored. The playing is so well organized. One minute, they’re playing almost like a mid 90’s Sonic Youth and the next their thrashing in straight metal dirges. Some aspects are highly melodic and others are as polar opposite as they could be. There’s a bit of a jazz fusion element as well. I’m just…wow. Buy this album before you buy anything else. If you like metal, progressive rock, jazz, death metal…hell even hardcore and grindcore….buy this album. This is just excellent. I am so happy to be a music lover at this moment, so glad good music does prevail. Wow.

BTBAM continues their seemingly effortless rise to the top of the metal heap with “The Parallax… EP”. Perhaps the most interesting thing this album does is shed some light on the discontinuity of the previous album, “The Great Misdirect”, which wasn’t really evident until now. With each new set of music, BTBAM manages to become more and less ‘accessible’ at the same time, never leaving behind head-spinning musical prowess.
