Yawning Man is very much a product of its environment. Forged under the skylit canopies of the Palm Desert, their mile-wide sound somehow wordlessly and vividly depicts the endlessness of Highway 1. It’s got a mile-wide calm about it, like thoughts forged when you haven’t heard a voice in hours. Most of all, it’s got the same breathtaking vibe as sunset painted on a canyon. It’s ethereal and elemental and real. It’s been a special record to me since the first time I heard it, and it’s one of the first records I would ever think to recommend.
