Megadeth

  1. gives it a: 5/5

As far as box sets go, this is a die hard fangasm. Megadeth packed this box set so full of hits, rarities, live cuts, b-sides and soundtrack entries that it seems like they left nothing on the cutting room floor…or in the vaults for that matter. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a live DVD from 1992, smack dab in the middle of the bands prime. As a metal fan and someone who appreciates fair pricing (I bought it used in mint condition for $10 off Amazon), this was a pleasent surprise. The only complaint is that while the set doesn’t mind including Megadeths weakest material (“Crush Em” anyone?), it avoids Rust In Peace, their masterpiece, like the plague. It doesn’t really matter though. The jazzy brilliance of Megadeths musicianship is in evidence all over this package. While no one is going to call Mustaine the best vocalist or lyricist in his genre, they may well have to admit he’s one hell of a good guitar player, songwriter and picker of fine musicians with which to filter his ideas. Screw me…5 stars.
