"The Eraser" is the debut solo album by Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke, released on 10 July 2006. The album placed #3 on the UK Albums Chart and #2 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, selling over 90,000 copies in its first week. The Eraser was nominated for both the Mercury Music Prize and the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2007. Critics commented on the uniqueness and fragility of Yorke's voice. I remember buying this, listening to it, and putting it away for lack of feeling anything emotional. One day, on a long ass drive to Florida, I popped it in.
This is music made entirely on a lap top computer with high quality software. And you know what, its a journey. It took me to places I’ve never been and it kicked my ass in a kind of spiritual way. I don’t know. I’d venture to say it outdoes all of Radioheads so called epic statements.
It’s a sparse little record and its not instantly pleasing either. But if you sit with it, give it the time of day…you’ll be surprised.
