Although ‘How Lonely Sites the City’ (their debut) was great in its own right, repeating the same formula for ‘From This Vantage’ would have come across annoyingly bland. Instead, The Ascent of Everest takes the best of their prior work (epic crescendos, lots of strings) and molds it into slightly more structured, shorter songs. The result is a post-rock record that needn’t be listened to passively—at least the first time.
