In the spring of 2008, Becoming the Archetype wrote the material for its third studio album and recorded the project with stand-in drummer Brandon Lopez in Summer '08 with producer Devin Townsend. "Dichotomy" was released in November 2008. The album's concept was inspired by the Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis and uses the same themes of biology vs technology, and man vs machine. Becoming The Archetype is a Christian progressive death metal/ metalcore band on Solid State Records that formed in 1999 out of Atlanta, Georgia. Their name refers to the Bible verse Genesis 1:26 which says, "God said, 'Let us make man in our image'" which coincides with the concept that Jesus Christ was the only person to ever be sinless; he was the ultimate archetype of humanity.

This was the best metal album of 2008, period. The concept is intriguing, the songwriting is interesting, the musicianship is creative and well-executed, and the album has a great balance of melody and groove. Really, though: Devin Townsend produced it and it’s about C.S. Lewis’s ‘Space Trilogy’. What more could you possibly ask for?
