Idris Muhammad (November 13, 1939 - July 29, 2014) was a jazz drummer. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana as Leo Morris before changing his name in the 1960s upon his conversion to Islam. He is known for his funky playing style. He has released a number of albums as leader, and has played with a number of jazz legends including Lou Donaldson, Johnny Griffin, Pharoah Sanders and Grover Washington, Jr. In 2011 he toured internationally with pianist Ahmad Jamal. The best track here is the title and lead-off cut, though it, like a lot of music of its ilk, suffers from a running time that necessitates a line or two to enjoy and keep dancing. “One With a Star” is the second best choice, but that one has way too much of the vocalists in the mix, which is the principle problem with the entire B-side. “Bread,” on the other hand, is just awful in so many ways – a limp-dicked blues attempt that crawls and feels twice as long as it is. There’s plenty of more weakly executed disco records out there, but not many as poorly conceived.
