Eddie Kendricks (Edward James Kendrick, Union Springs, Alabama, December 17, 1939 – Birmingham, Alabama, October 5, 1992), was an American singer and songwriter, noted for his distinctive falsetto singing style. Kendricks co-founded the Motown singing group The Temptations, and was one of their lead singers from 1960 until 1971. A dance record – every track is either an uptempo disco number or a slower soul track designed to make you get closer to your partner. The latter suits Kendricks’ vocal style more, but several of the disco tracks are pretty great, especially the lengthy “Ain’t No Smoke Without Fire.”
