High Wolf is one of the many projects of prolific French multi-instrumentalist Maxime Primault. He uses loops, percussive sounds, fuzzy keyboards and obscure sunken melodies to create a ritual space that combines aspects of exotica, ethno-flux, drone and minimalism.
Primault's other projects include Enfer Boréal, Black Zone Myth Chant and Annapurna Illusion. He is also a member of Saturn Finger and Voodoo Mount Sister. Read more on Last.fm
Starts off in the same vein as last year’s “Ascension” LP before moving into a funkier, catchier variation on his patented loop drones. I can see why people expecting headier drone would be turned off by this but this is serviceable and nice hypnagogic pop a la pre-“Arcade Dynamics” Ducktails, and at about 40 minutes this tape is a very healthy dose of High Wolf.
