The Divine Wings of Tragedy is the third studio album by Symphony X, released in 1997. It features nine tracks, ranging in genre from almost 'sympho-thrash' ("Of Sins and Shadows") to epic, progressive pieces ("The Accolade", "The Divine Wings of Tragedy"). The title track, "The Divine Wings of Tragedy", contains excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B Minor and The Planets by Gustav Holst. The song is inspired by John Milton's Paradise Lost and its main theme is quoted at the end of the last song, "Revelation (Divus Pennae ex Tragoedia)", of the band's 2007 album Paradise Lost.
