To house purists, this is just a debut, a promising, lacking debut. To me, an audiophile who’s very picky about my house, trip-hop and samples, this is literally the best mixtape ever….only its not a mixtape. It’s a fully realized conception. Within this record, the harmonica from Black Sabbaths “The Wizard” is isolated with underpinned drums. Guitars are shredded into pieces and played backwards over samples of out of tune piano keys played with hammer, rounded out by a Mavis Staples bass line. This is party music for jazz enthusiasts on break from Bitches Brew. Fatboy Slim is the Thelonius Monk of house music…no….the Muddy Waters…..no…..maybe he’s just badass.
