James Blunt – Moon Landing (2013)

Since the vast success of his debut album ‘Back to Bedlam’ in 2005, former British Army officer and singer/songwriter, James Blunt, has released two other full length albums; ‘All the Lost Souls’ (2007) and ‘Some Kind of Trouble’ (2010). This time around he has again teamed up with producer Tom Rothrock to record his latest release, Moon Landing.

Fans from Blunt’s early days will be familiar with the style of this record and will be sure to experience an array of emotions from start to finish. The album opens at a mid-tempo, foot-tapping pace, luring one into a state of contentment, but, by no means does it remain this way. As on other James Blunt releases there is that one song, at least, that never fails to tug on the heart strings, and those accustomed to this will be anticipating that very song. Without giving too much away in terms of track listing, this track does indeed appear and it tells a very familiar story. However, there is very little time to embrace the emotion provoked by this number as the following track with its pulse changing tempo, induces an immediate change of sensation; but for how long? Also, Moon Landing features a track that James Blunt had written as a tribute to a well-known singer who is sadly no longer with us.

With thought provoking lyrics and melodies listeners are sure to be taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. So, kick back, relax and enjoy.  7.5/10
