The standout tracks in the album are without a doubt the narratives which are reminiscent of early 90’s rap when every song was a story rather than a gratuitous description of your wealth, cars, and women. Songs such as Heroes Requiem paint vivid imagery and lend a look into the immense amount of nerd cred that Warrock holds without seeming forced. The album maintains a very smooth flow implementing a great variety of samples and turntabalism showing that there is more to this artist than simply namedropping comic book characters over a generic beat. Laxidazia is another standout track which really showcases Warrock’s solid flow over a smooth beat and jazz track. Lady Death Never Wanted Me As A Lover is one of my favorite tracks on this album, I admit I’m rather partial to it due to the nods at Atmosphere but even a casual listener will find this to be a solid track. No review can go without mentioning what could be referred to as the first “single” from this album which is the song Ira Glass, named after the NPR personality. It was a great track, not a particular favorite of mine but no doubt a popular one.
This album has a really solid vibe reflecting Warrock’s influence from the golden age of rap music in the early 90’s which is a breath of fresh air when compared to the mainstream rap currently available. One can only hope that this is the beginning of a stream of great material from this up and coming artist and I look forward to more great tracks from Adam Warrock.
